A prominent public health practitioner and educationist has urged Cambodian parents to train children in financial literacy by starting with stock market investments.

Mengly Quach, founder, chairman and CEO of Mengly J Quach Education Plc (MJQE), whose company is slated to be listed on Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) late June, made the appeal at a recent roadshow in Phnom Penh.

“Our older generation do not understand the stock market, but your children must learn and understand the market. They must be educated on financial literacy,” said Mengly.

The educationist said people can help their children achieve financial literacy by enabling them to start by investing in the stock market and “learning by doing.”

“When you register to create a [stock trading] account, you will understand the process. After you understand the process and invest, you will learn to monitor the stock market."

“Then, you will recognise the market trends [for instance], when the stock market goes up or down. You know when to buy and when to sell. Over time, you know how the market works and what market doesn’t work,” said Mengly. “When you are experienced enough, you can invest in companies in ASEAN, and then international companies and so on.”

Mengly J. Quach Education Plc (MJQE) has conducted a series of roadshows to pitch to potential investors as it gears up to launch an initial public offering (IPO) on CSX on June 28 to raise $10 million.

The roadshow follows the greenlight given by CSX and the Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC) to the private educational institute for listing.

MJQE was established in 2005 as one of Cambodia’s leading private educational institutions, with a strong focus on quality education, discipline and services. It has grown strength to strength since then.

Today, MJQE continues to hold a strong position in the field of education, boasting 15 branches nationwide, with over 20,000 students, 2,149 employees and more than 50,000 alumni, studying and working around the world.

The company would be opening new branches in several districts and provinces including Sen Sok, Chbar Ampov, Kampong Cham, Takeo and Battambang for the 2023-2024 academic year.

SERC carefully reviewed its listing application where it learned about MJQE’s extension of growth and development. On March 7, CSX agreed in principle for the application to study the possibility of listing of securities. On March 20, CSX approved a proposal to set a price of 2,080 riels per share.
