A year later, he won a scholarship to study at the Independent Journalism Foundation (IJF) in Phnom Penh. He was quickly snapped up to work as a stringer for Spanish news wire EFE, before moving on to work for Chinese news agency, Xinhua. In 2010, he moved onto the next stage of his career, working with Reuters, where he spent 14 years working as a full-time correspondent. Chan Thul is also a passionate advocate of press freedom, having been involved in championing independent journalism for many years. Besides chasing stories of public interest, Chan Thul works as a media trainer, helping transform young, timid people into fierce journalists.
