Over 5,000 technical amateurs and professionals, and technology enthusiasts participated in the second edition of Code-C, a developer conference and coding conference 2023, which was held at the American University of Phnom Penh between Sept 9 and 10.
The event saw participants connect and share insights, including information on the latest cybersecurity threats and strategies to protect user data and enhance digital privacy.

Seng Sopheap, president of Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology, who called the event unique, aimed to create a digital innovation ecosystem.
“It’s a one-of-its-kind event, I think. The Code-C event is very unique because it talks about technology with 90 amazing speakers and panelists,” said Sopheap.
The conference, which featured 40 startups and digital businesses with 45 workshops, connected developers and entrepreneurs who discussed how technology drives innovation.

Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, said the advent of technology has resulted in growth of software development, cloud technology, AI, data science to web 3.0, digital marketing, gaming and animation.
The tech segments are likely to stimulate, educate and inspire digital talents to join the government’s broader mission in future.
“It's about harnessing the boundless potential of digital technology to create a Cambodia that is forward-thinking, inclusive and digitally advanced,” Vandeth said.
In the next few months, the ministry would introduce the Digital Skill Development Roadmap, a forward-thinking plan to prepare the Cambodian workforce for the future of work in the evolving digital age.
The roadmap would promote advanced digital skills in the field of digital connectivity, cybersecurity, data governance, software development, data and artificial intelligence (AI), digital sales and marketing, and digital innovation and entrepreneurship.

“It can be achieved by improving the education infrastructure, education quality, the qualification and competence of educators while fostering collaborations between educational institutions, the industries and government entities,” he said.
Ziad Shatara, CEO of Smart Axiata, which sponsored Code-C, said the company was pleased to be involved in the digital transformation in Cambodia.
There are many important technologies these days, such as AI, blockchain and cybersecurity.
Digital transformation is a cornerstone of Smart Axiata for long-term sustainability, he said, adding that the company sees itself as an enabler, consumer, distributor and producer of such technologies.
He noted that Smart Axiata provides connectivity and is invested throughout the year in low frequency and high speed available everywhere and all the time.

As the consumer, Smart Axiata deploys AI everyday in the system and network to better serve customers, he said.
“AI is being deployed in our network in many cases. To give you an example, we apply AI to electrical saving every night,” he said.
The company has launched a $5 million startup fund, and has invested in more than 11 companies, including Nham24.
“We see ourselves continuing this journey to enable startups by buying from them, deploying their solutions and in many cases, investing,” Shatara said.
