The “Visit Cambodia Year 2023” has got underway, with the aim of attracting four million tourists in the year that Cambodia hosts the SEA Games.
On February 23, Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a directive detailing actions for the campaign “Visit Cambodia Year 2023”. This was released to the public on Thursday.
The directive states that in addition to attracting four million tourists, the “Visit Cambodia Year 2023” campaign aims to increase the country’s reputational image while hosting the upcoming 32nd SEA Games and 12th Para Games.
The directive added that it will promote Cambodia as a tourist destination of wonder, with a target of four million international and 15 million local tourists this year by tapping into the SEA Games, to be held from May 5 to 17, and the 12th ASEAN Para Games, from June 3 to 9.
As part of the “Visit Cambodia Year 2023” campaign, the Ministry of Tourism will work with other relevant ministries and stakeholders on its promotions and awareness raising based on four potential pillars – cultural heritage, eco-tourism, beaches and Khmerness – by offering new experiences and tastes.
The Ministry will also cooperate with other authorities to organize monthly international events and weekly events in provinces.
Among many tourism-related activities, the Ministry will also work with the neighboring countries of Laos, Vietnam and Thailand to develop cross-country tourist packages, including the initiative of “two countries, one destination”, or “three countries, one destination”.
Cambodia Angkor Air will also use “Visit Cambodia Year 2023” on their planes, the directive said, adding that other messages will also feature, including “Every Day is a Wonder”, “Every View is a Wonder”, and “Every Flavor is a Wonder”.
