The Chinese Defense Ministry has provided a grant of 150 vehicles to the Cambodian Ministry of Defense to host ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting at the end of 2022.

On September 1, the Chinese Ministry of Defense provided a grant of 150 vehicles to the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia to co-host the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting and to expand Cambodia-China friendship and cooperation.

The agreement took place between the Minister of National Defense of Cambodia, Tea Banh and the Chinese Ambassador of Cambodia, Wang Vintian at the Win Win Memorial.

Banh said because Cambodia will chair the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting in 2022, it will be difficult for Cambodia to provide support material. He also requested China to share the difficulties, especially for transportation.

“Sincerity is China's response, we have previously put problems in this work which are now arriving," he said.
“We continue to develop together, especially in times of difficulty, and the Republic of China is quick to help Cambodia in all situations.”

Cambodia and China held discussions about holding larger-scale exercises after the two countries were interrupted by the Covid pandemic. However, he has not yet confirmed the date of the exercise.

“We are in discussions about the military exercise with the People's Republic of China. At this time it could be large-scale and more diverse, it could be expanded to involve the navies. Regarding the date, we will discuss this later on,” Banh told reporters.

This purpose of strengthening cooperation between the Cambodian and Chinese armed forces is to enhance the capacity of the bilateral armed forces in line with the reform of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, Banh said.

He added that if any other countries want to organize military exercises with the Cambodian army, they will always be welcome.

“If anyone dares to spend on food, oil, and transportation, they are welcome, but we don't see [anyone] besides the Chinese,” he added.

Banh said the 150 vehicles are ready to transport the delegation that will attend the meeting. He added that besides vehicles, China has provided office materials and telephone communications for the meeting.
