The Cambodian men's team won two points in the Men’s Triples 60 Minutes against Myanmar and Vietnam in the first and second round respectively in Monday’s Chess Ouk Chaktrang event.

In the first round, Cambodian chess players Sok Limheng and Chea Sidet defeated Nyein Chan from Myanmar. In the second round, Cambodia beat the Vietnamese chess team.

Chess Ouk Chaktrang is one of the events at the 32nd SEA Games, which lasts 10 days from April 29 to May 9. The chess games are being held at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, with five countries competing in the Ouk Chaktrang Men’s Triples 60 Minutes.

There are seven variations of the Chess Ouk Chaktrang at the Games. These are the Men’s Single 5 Minutes, Men’s Single 60 Minutes, Men’s Double 60 Minutes, Men's Quadruple 60 minutes, Women's Single 60 minutes, Men's Triples 60 minutes, and Women's Double 60 minutes.

To win in Chess Ouk Chaktrang, players have to checkmate their opponent kings using several tactics and strategies.

Limheng, 22, was known as King Chess during Angkor Sangkran 2023 and won many medals. During the Men’s Triples 60 Minutes on Monday, he was in the Sesh Kiev, or blue knight team.

Limheng has never participated in the SEA Games before and has performed well during his first participation in this year’s game, winning one point for the Cambodian team against Nyein Chan of Myanmar.

Limheng also achieved a remarkable result in the Men's Single 5 Minutes by receiving a score of 4.5, the highest in the game that was held on the first day of Chess Ouk Chaktrang.
