The first Cambodia Tech Expo took place in the capital simultaneously to the 2022 ASEAN Summit, with the aim of promoting the nation’s digital revolutions.

The Kingdom’s inaugural Cambodia Tech Expo (CTX) coincided with the 2022 ASEAN Summit, which Cambodia hosted this year.

CTX 2022 included approximately 240 booths from 68 firms and attracted more than 20,000 participants during the three days.

Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, presided over the official launch of the event, which was hosted by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

At the event, which ran from November 11 to 13 at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center in Phnom Penh, Pornmoniroth said the digital revolution is a key trend in driving demand for digital skills to meet financial, banking, insurance, telecommunications, education, health and government needs.

“In the process of digital transformation, we need to develop human resources, both skills and knowledge, which are indispensable factors in promoting economic products and improving economic infrastructure from a low-skilled and labor-intensive economy by favoring a high-tech, capital-intensive economy,” he added.

Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), said at CTX, “Agricultural technology is the key to national development in this technological age, especially to ensuring global food security.”

He added that agriculture needs to be modernized to achieve growth. The impact of science, technology, and innovation on the environment and the development of sustainable communities are also essential.

Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister of MISTI, said in his opening remarks that science, technology, and innovation have the potential to improve efficiency and effectiveness, and have an impact on efforts to realize Cambodia’s development goals by 2030. This will benefit the economy, society, and environment.

The innovation system must be strengthened by creating an atmosphere that encourages risk-taking and offers a safe environment for investments, in order to reap the advantages of innovation successfully, encourage investment from various sources that make inventive resources for sustainable development, and make an innovative ecologically sustainable economy.

“To take benefits of innovation, we must mobilize all our talent resources, strengthen the innovation system, encourage investment from various sources, and create an open and environmentally-friendly innovative economy,” Prasidh said.
