Cambodia Starts Exporting Longans to China

After three years of negotiations, Cambodia has started exporting home-grown longans to China in a move that will boost farmers’ livelihoods

Cambodia has officially started exporting longan to China, after waiting for approval since August.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries celebrated the ‘Official Launch of Cambodian Fresh Longan Exports to China Market’, with the presence of Dith Tina, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and Chinese Ambassador Wang Wentain.

“This is another new achievement born out of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, which contributes significantly to the development of the agricultural sector by increasing production, attracting Chinese investment,” said the Minister of Agriculture.

He added, “In the field of agricultural production, the construction of packaging and processing infrastructure serves exports and to create jobs and increase farmers' incomes to promote economic and social development in Cambodia.”

He added this contributes significantly to the development of the agricultural sector by increasing production.

After three years of negotiations over the requirements for phytosanitary to open the market, on September 7, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) approved official registration of 74 gourd plantations and eight packing factories for gourd export from Cambodia to China.

From 2019 to the late-June 2022, Cambodia exported 2.4 million tons of agricultural products with a total export value of $1.942 billion.

In addition, Cambodian mangoes, fish, corn and lentils are allowed to be exported to the Chinese market.

Longans will be the third Cambodian fresh fruit item approved for export to China after bananas and mangos.
