PPAP Handled 20% More Container TEUs in 2022

Latest data by the state-owned entity revealed increased performance in business and service segments for the port in 2022

Container throughput for Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) increased 19.7 percent year-on-year (YoY) to 417,696 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2022 from 348,898 TEUs.

The port’s cargoes and gas fuel tonnage also grew 5.2 percent to 4.04 million tonnes from 3.8 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year, according to its filing on its business outcome with Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX).

In 2022, cargo vessels and passenger boats rose 64.3 percent and 109 percent (low base) to 3,783 vessels and 109 boats compared to 2021, respectively.

Meanwhile, container throughput stood at 34,435 TEUs for the month of December, which was up 3.7 percent YoY, while cargoes and gas fuel saw a 22.2 percent YoY increase in tonnage at 398,255 tonnes.

At closing, the counter lost 0.7 percent or 100 riel to settle at 14,400 riel for a full market capitalization of 1.6 trillion riel (approximately $400.3 million).
