Commerce Minister, Pan Sorasak, said on Tuesday that a border trade agreement with neighbouring Vietnam will bring mutual benefits, improving people’s living conditions along the border and creating favourable trade conditions.

Sorasak’s remarks came during a parliamentary commission session about the border trade agreement draft with Vietnam ahead of a plenary National Assembly.

According to a statement posted on Facebook, the Ministry of Commerce said that Sorasak laid out benefits that Cambodia will receive from the border trade agreement once the bill is ratified by parliament.

The Minister said that the agreement will improve the living standards of people living along the borders of the two countries, while strengthening friendship, cooperation and comprehensive relations and sustainable development.

It will be long-term, stable and sustainable development for the people of the two countries, and create favorable conditions for the two countries' businesses, Sorasak said.

The Minister expects that the agreement will contribute to the implementation of strategies to further strengthen business connectivity aimed at enhancing business partnerships, providing employment opportunities, promoting production and family businesses that will help promote and improve the lives of Cambodians living along the Cambodian-Vietnamese border.

He added that, in particular, the agreement will serve as a mechanism to facilitate cross-border trade between the two countries to better respond to economic development.
