The SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games 2023 are calling for volunteers to help in the upcoming events that start in May.
According to a post on the official Cambodia 2023 Facebook page on Wednesday, organizers are seeking the support of 7,000 volunteers during the two games.
“The dream of becoming a volunteer for the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games, a great historical event and the pride of Cambodia as a host, has arrived. [We will] receive applications from February 1 to March 1, 2023,” the Facebook post said with an attached link for registration.
Applicants must have been at least 18-years-old on January 1, 2023. They will be divided into nine teams: Opening and Closing Ceremony; Protocol and Ceremony; Accommodation, Food and Transportation; Media and Broadcasting; Medical and Anti-Doping; Venue Preparation; Marketing and Sponsorship; Culture, Environment and Sport Education; and Games IT.
Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), told Kiripost on Thursday that Cambodia will need about 7,000 volunteers to assist during the SEA Games, which will be divided into two major parts.
“Among 7,000 [volunteers] we have divided into two [sectors]. First [sector], they will help in technical skills, such as assisting in arranging following each type of sports in the event. Second [sector], will assist the volunteer team with things such as hospitality for welcoming guests, helping sport villages to find accommodation and eating places. We also need security volunteers to facilitate safety, logistics, expertise committees,” he said.
He added, “Therefore, they [volunteers] have the responsibility to help facilitate in order to make participants feel comfortable and warm as we are a host country. What we are doing now is to better increase the values of the host country.”
The 2023 Southeast Asian Games, commonly known as the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, or the 32nd SEA Games, will be celebrated in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 5 to 17 May 2023.
The NOCC said Cambodia is ready for the next 92 days before the SEA Games will start. There will be 37 sports comprising 508 events that will be played by 11 ASEAN nations of Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Cambodian SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC) expects the 32nd SEA Games to be a success to honor the country and provide the next generations with memories of pride.
