An Australian mining company has produced 6,727 kilograms of gold, earning more than $10 million for the state from gold mining in Keo Seima district, Mondulkiri, since starting nearly three years ago.
According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy on June 11, since the official opening of the gold mining business, Renaissance Minerals has refined 90 percent of its gold (6,727kg). It has also paid $10,223,339 in taxes.
“This achievement has brought foreign investment to Cambodia, which creates employment and economic opportunities, and also explains the local industries and social-economy,” the ministry said.
The gold mining project has provided job opportunities to 434 workers, comprising 347 Cambodians and 87 foreigners. Infrastructure development started in mid-2020, with a total investment of $120 million. The project officially launched in June, 2021.
The provincial deputy governor mentioned that in Mondulkiri there are 14 companies studying and investing in gold mining. The Ministry has given licenses to seven companies to mine gold in Cambodia.
