After a two-year pandemic-fueled hiatus, this year’s Khmer New Year celebrations drew millions of people all across the country – and the festivities saw a sharp increase in digital payment transactions, according to one of Cambodia’s leading financial institutes, ACLEDA.
During the April 14-16 holidays, which government figures show more than 5 million people travelled across the country, ACLEDA recorded more than 1.5 million transactions. This is the equivalent of more than $434 million from April 13 to 18, 2022.
The figure represents a sharp increase and includes payments via QR scans and other transactions by ACLEDA mobile users.
During the festivities, the bank claims people used QR Scan for payments at restaurants, hotels and resorts because digital payment has now become a trend among most young people.
ACLEDA bank said as of now, its mobile banking app, ACLEDA Mobile, has more than 2 million users. Recently, the bank adopted KHQR, which allows its users to conveniently make digital payments across banks.
If you do not have an ACLEDA Mobile app yet, you can download it from Apple’s App Store, Google Play and App Gallery. It is free of charge and you can use your personal mobile phone as your ACLEDA Mobile account.
